Dragonfly Dance, by Jason Berg

Morning, hot and humid… The heat: oppressive, there is little movement only steam rises from the grass.

Then one, then two, then ten, then twenty. Dragonflies!!! Turning, spinning, whirling, dipping and diving.

Beautiful, laughing at my discomfort. They are built for this, I am not.

They appear and disappear, I can only watch and appreciate them, Wishing it was just a little bit cooler.

Dragonfly Dance is a short, seven and a half minute piece for string quartet. It alternates between slower, lyrical sections and a rhythmic, uptempo theme. The uptempo theme explores the use of odd- meter time signatures and double stops in the strings to accompany its chromatic twistyness.

The premiere of Dragonfly Dance took place in the Hemmle Recital Hall of Texas Tech University on April 28, 2008.
